Two brothers

When Isaac is not around, you ask where he is. When he is taking a nap you want to wake him up so ya'll can play. He constantly looks around for you when you are not around too. Two brothers who love each others company and are already starting to argue and play over toys. Isaac loves to grab your toy and run away laughing. Then, when you get it from him, he either is ok with it or starts to cry. haha! We love you and Isaac so much and are blessed to have ya'll as are children.

Noah is almost 4 years old and he is excited now and has just started to use his "Muno" toothbrush, a Kid's sonicare that has interchangable surfaces, that Grandma gave him. Now Mom, Dad, and Noah are using electric toothbrushes. He has also started flossing.

Successful! The office was fun and very kid-friendly. Noah did great, got his teeth polished, flossed, dose of fluoride, and even was still for x-rays. The Dentist and I discussed thumb sucking cessation strategies. On the way home Noah said he had fun and was excited about all the things he got in the little take home bag.

Noah is blossoming in the pre-school room and completely potty trained now during the day. He is into being empathetic and says "I'm sorry for _____." He also identifies and decides who his best friends are. He has said that Mom, Dad, Oliver, Niko are his best friends from day to day. At this moment his best friend is Aubrielle, next door. She's 5 but they talk and play so well together. As she was leaving in the car with her Mom, the windows were rolled down and she yelled, "Bye Noah!" and Noah said bye back then said "She's my best friend," all happy and proud. It was so great! =)

Noah's progress: February 2010 - interested in going to the potty and went poo poo and pee pee on your Elmo seat. yay! When Isaac born, lost interest. Now Summer of 2010 (3 yrs and 2 months old) excited about wearing pull-ups like other friends in your class and doing well! Often diapers are dry in the morning and you are now standing and peeing in the potty. Right now it's 50/50 on poo poo in the potty verses in the pull up. You seem to be in a good place about potty training. Your teacher Ms. Shana helps out too. (you pooped on the couch the other day *sigh* it leaked out of your diaper) When you have a dirty diaper, you walk funny and ask us right away to change you. We will continue to be patient with you. =)

Noah, this was your 3rd time at the Hallettsville reunion. The first was when you were 6 weeks old, the second 2 years old, and the this time, you are now 3 years old. You had a lot of fun in the swimming pool, kicking your legs with help of the kick board, shooting the water gun "Shoot!", and watching the big kids jump off the diving board-you even jumped off the side of the pool into Mommy's arms, yay! You are starting swim lessons at your school Monday, June 7th. You loved the horse, car, and dinosaur cookies Grandma made you and playing ball with Sara, Corbin, and Aunt Liz. You were in awe when you saw all kinds of huge interesting bugs like giant grasshoppers, june bugs, spiders, a dead frog, and a centipede. You enjoyed a Popsicle for the first time (I know b/c you tried to grab it the wrong way), and were amazed seeing stuffed dear heads on the wall for the first time, and also a big grandfather clock. When you saw it your eyes lit up wide, you pointed to it and said, "Mommy, Hickory Dickory Doc!" It was the cutest, and I had to sing the song. =)

Went out to dinner with Grandma and Uncle Dan to Mama Fu's. You got a kids chicken and noodle meal and used chop sticks for the very first time and did awesome! You ate your whole meal using them, enjoying steamed broccoli, shrimp, rice noodles, and terriaki chicken. Such a great time and memory, and we enjoyed watching you get excited saying, "I did it!" every time you picked food up with them. You are so talented Noah! =)

Allergy Proofing

At 2 1/2 years old, we have discovered Noah is allergic to eggs and peanuts/tree nuts, mountian cedar, bermuda grass, and dust mites. This has prompted me to clean clean clean more often and allergy proof the house. Bought mattress and pillow encasements, allergy laundry detergent to kill those suckers, and vow to vacuum and wash the bedsheets every 2 weeks instead of every month or 2. I pray that this will help little Noah's allergic asthma and hope the new baby won't be so allergic.

Noah did a great job trick-or-treating this year at 2 1/2 years old. He walked up to the doors said the magic words and was amazed at the candy neighbors put in his pumpkin. We liked to look at the houses that were decorated with pumpkins and 'scary costoms.'

Our friends had a pumpkin carving party and we had a good time. Noah liked putting stickers on his little pumpkin and he even helped Dad with our big Fumpkin (fake pumpkin). Not to worry the little tool Noah is holding was very very dull. Ours is the one on the left with no light (because you have to use battery powered tea lights, not a real candle, or else it would catch fire!). Good thing about those, they don't rot and we'll be able to enjoy it through Halloween.

This week Noah has started to demonstrate recognizing letters. He looks at the computer keyboard and says "push ABCD's" and when he sees something with writing on it he points to it and says "ABCD's." Did I already mention in previous blogs that he can recite the entire alphabet song?! He recognizes his name on objects his blankets, toys, pillows, etc. and when it's written down on paper. He is really doing well putting sentences together and strives to find words he does not konw yet to fill in the blanks. He's doing so well gramatically!

FIRST TRIP TO THE ZOO!

We met Gina and Carter at the San Antonio Zoo. We all had a great time. Noah and Carter hung out and tagged along with each other. Noah got a tiger cup and twisty straw as a souvenir. All the animals were out of their caves, so we got the full experience and were in the zoo for 3 1/2 hours! I can't say Noah had a favorite animal, he liked them all.

Things going on now: Noah's favorite songs to sing are Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and ABC's; he can sing them all the way through. He can count to 10 all by himself, and now say "fire truck" clearly instead of "ire guck." He's so inquisitive too, wanting to know everything that's going on around him, and says "Ooo dat Daddy/Mommy?" it's cute b/c he doesn't say what's that or who's that yet. Noah has the most precious golden blond hair right now too.

Surgery 8/7/09

Noah had surgery for initially for what was thought to be an inguinal hernia, which he did have a very small one, but his little groin bulge was coming from a direct hernia; from what the surgeon told us was very rare in kids his age, and that it was something that he was born with. We went in Friday morning (we were glad the surgery was at 7:45am because he couldn't eat 8 hours before or drink 4 hours before - so he went straight from crib to car) the surgery took only 40 minutes, then we waited in recovery for a few hours until he could tolerate liquids. They let him take his favorite blanket back with him for comfort, and he was happy and in good spirits for the hour of prep. He didn't act scared or cry which was good. We were a little nervous because he had to be under general anesthesia, but he came out of it well. When they brought him out his legs were numb, so I had to hold ~30 pounds of dead weight; my arm was sore. haha. But he eventually was walking around that afternoon and it was a lazy afternoon of watching Yo Gabba Gabba. Noah is recovering well and was totally off pain meds by Monday morning, I'm glad because the codeine made him act loopy. Grandma came to stay with him for a few days before it's back to day care. He is not supposed to climb or straddle toys for 2weeks and cannot be submerged in a bath or pool. We manage to keep him fresh and clean with sponge baths. I'm glad he will not remember it and is young and resilient. The surgeon said this is a good age because of those 2 factors.

Tonight Noah and I ate cheese sandwiches together (actually he ate a cheese sandwich and I ate a PB and miracle whip sandwich - egg and peanuts he cannot have yet - what!? it's good!). He sat down with his milk and said "Mommy milk too." So I got up, poured me and glass and sat back down at the table. He lifted his glass and said "Cheers!," while I proceeded to clank my cup against his and we drank. =)
Now he's is saying "Hi Momma, hi Momma," asking for my attention so sweetly. Gotta go play! He is such a cute boy.

Growing by leaps and bounds

25 1/2 months - Noah has grown an average of half an inch a month in the last 6 months! Favorite food: oatmeal (he pronouces it "EMO." it's so cute). Most frequent words right now are "no" and "water in there" and "outside (aye-aye)." He's talking a lot in phrases. He has taken in interest in trying to dress himself, playing with toy food (making a snack). He knows how to entertain himself and do what he wants to do without clinging to Momma or Daddy when we have company over. He is rarely a shy boy (only to strangers) and likes to interact with others by rolling/throwing a ball or reading a book. It's been another HOT summer. The majority of free time is spent at the park & pool. He is no longer the 'baby' at tht pool. He loves to watch the other kids swim, as he walks around the baby pool, plays with his bucket and cups transfering 'water in there,' and he loves to where his hat everyday and asks for it when he goes outside at school, which is good because his hair is so baby fine. He has 2 noticiable moles now; one on his forehead and the other his left cheek. I wonder if he will ever have freckles? Noah is such a good boy and delight and always full of fun energy, but also can relax with his hands behind his head in the chair in the evenings with Mom and Dad. He says no to bath time and sleeping, but they must happen; he knows he has a choice now that he can voice. haha! Almost all his teeth have broke through now with the exception of two on the bottom. We are using the toddler safe toothpaste which he likes the taste of. He got his first pair of really good tennis shoes, grey New Balance. Noah does/says things nearly everyday that amaze/entertain us. Example: I was singing loudy in the kitchen and Noah reaches at my mouth and says, "off." I laughed so hard. =) Lil' uch!

Noah went to a birthay party for one of his classmates and what a party it was! The Biscuit Brothers performed, they are a local favorite that sing kids songs like O' Mac Donald. Each kid got a gift bag with toy instruments so they could play along too. The kids had a blast as well as the adults.

Noah told me "move!" for the first time. That little rascal! I immediately followed up with "Say move please." On the flip side, we were playing outside with chalk and painting with water when he turned to me and said "Mommy big hug" and then hugged me! Totally unprovoked. Noah is amazing. He talks in 2-3 words phrases now and really tries to talk in sentences filling the unknown words with 'un, da, ung'. Please and thank you are being encouraged, and he does the sign language for both. One of his cute phrases right now is "I need band-aid." haha! fav foods righ now: yogurt "gwert", oatmeal, cheese fish, and graham crackers dipped in milk. He is already familiar with our commute to and from school, and he points out landmarks and realizes we're turning onto certain streets. He is getting more and more interested in doing what Dad does. Mom is the only one he wants to put him to bed. Mom or Dad giving him a bath is fine. fav toys at the moment: puzzle pieces, mop, train, stuffed dog and turtle. Oh, and he still loves his books. We are planning his 2 year old birthday celebrations on May 23 in Austin and June 6 at a family reunion. He has already received his present from us, a plastic Play School dump truck that came with stackable pieces. He loves to point them out around town, "guck", "tras guck", and "ire guck".

Dad is washing the cars, Mom is having coffee watching Noah eat a good 'ol healthy breakfast of oatmeal and and V8 Fusion pomegranate blueberry. We call it Grandpa's oatmeal b/c last time Matt's Dad visited he at it with him in the mornings. I think that is why he still wants to eat it days later. Noah is growing up so fast. Yesterday I officialy declared he had started the 'terrible twos' a month early. haha. well, I just saw a new little attitude/fit. We have been in our new house for 2 weeks now and are loving it. Noah's 12th tooth is breaking through this week. He's telling me he's finished with breakfast and is having a complete conversation (that's a little hard to understand) but we can tell it's a complete stream of thoughts. We are enjoying our lucious yard and spring flowers. Noah plays with his bubble lawn mower, broom, rake, and shovel.

Noah, 19-20 months first said "thank you," "apple," then "happy," "bubble," and "cracker." Oh, and we can't forget "Brobee!" from his favorite show, Yo Gabba Gabba. He's talking so much now, "oosh (shoes), ock (sock), sigh (outside), mmm (moon) baba (banana), ire (fire), book, car, alk (chalk), eef (leaf), wee-ol (ravioli), ease (cheese), newt (fig newton), daw (dog), raff (giraffe), wawa (water), milk, eye, orge (Curious George), turl (turtle), ball, uum (broom)" are many he says often. He repeats things we say a lot now too. He starting to play pretend and talks out loud. He's better on 3-4 hour car trips now when going to the Grandparents house. He has also taken interest in changing his diaper and says poopoo and points to his bottom; a good sign of soon readiness for potty training perhaps.

Mom, Dad, & Noah all had a great day off from work and school (daycare). We spent all day playing, learning, running errands, doing chores, and cleaning as a family. Noah is 19 months old now and talking up a storm. He is so smart, repeating words we say and holding his own conversations. He says a lot of common words in his books and points to them. He is in a stage were he whines sometimes for Mama and is cranky about going to sleep in his own bed (crib) although he's been sleeping just fine in it since he was 2 months old. Total number of teeth now: 11. All 4 1st molars came in about the same time, but he got through it just fine. Sonya made us black-eye peas today for good luck, they were yummy.

We thought for sure, Now that Noah is 18 1/2 months old, that he would cry in Santa's lap..Nope! Not him! Noah sat there and looked at Santa and listened to him talk, wasn't even nervous or uncomfortable we could tell because he didn't suck his thumb. He was happy that Santa gave him a coloring book and walked away smiling, like " Wow, that was a very interesting person to meet." haha!

We got to hang out with Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Liz at Wurstfest in New Braunfels. Liz did the Wurstride, then we all went to the fest and ate German food and drank beer (what else are you supposed to do at those?!) Noah had a good time hanging with the family.

Now that Noah has begun walking, during his first week he has tumbled 3 times each resulting in a visible owie! Tues-purple bruise on left cheek. Fri-scratch on left cheek. Sat-big red bump on top of left forehead. Oh Noah....

I make "power toast" for Noah. It's cubes of wheat bread coated with a "sauce" usually consisting of a blended meat, vegetable, and fruit. He loves the spongy bite sized flavorful pieces. I find it's a great way to get him to eat a balanced meal when each one of those items individually, he will not eat.

15 3/4 months - Yesterday we were walking around the side of the house looking for a kitty cat that usually appears from our neighbors house. While Noah was walking, he was doing the sign for "cat" the whole time. It was another amazing moment for him and of course Mom to see how aware he is with a growing understanding of the world around him and a way to communicate. He such a smarty pants.

We went to the Iguana Grill to see a free family show featuring the band, "Greezy Wheels." It is a mexican food restaurant with a great view of Lake Travis and a grassy play area for the kids. Noah had a fun and shared his graham crackers with 2 of the other boys at break time. We could tell he wanted to take off running in the game of tag with the others; it won't be long!

weekends

On the weekends we like to do activities outside whether it be taking Noah on a run in the stroller or going to the park. He's ready to go in his workout clothes! Right now he is nodding his head to "yes" and shaking it for "no," and loves waving "hi" and "bye." He likes different flavors of foods, drinking water out of a cup (us helping of course), dancing to music, and talking up a storm, trying to say words we say. Nickname this week: cheerios monster. Favorite sign right now: milk.

We are so pleased with Noah's daycare, Stepping Stone School. He is building a network of friends and having so many experiences and a good schedule of learning, playing, mealtimes, cleaning up toy area, washing hands, signing, and nap times. He is smiling and happy when we bring him in the morning and pick him up in the afternoon. I've kept all of his art-work and class pictures and reports from the teachers on activities he participates in with fine motor-development, language, etc. The sharing of germs has been the hardest part for me, as is is hard to have a sick little one, but nothing can replace the growth he has had with a group of others in a positive setting.

Today was funny, I was singing a song to Noah on the ukulele, which was horribly out of tune, both me and it actually, and he gave me the funniest look that said, " wooh, Mom, that's pretty bad." It's the exact look I would give if I heard it too! haha! It's really neat how Noah "wants" to sleep now. He asks, without saying words basically to lay down in his crib, when he's tired. I think us and his school have built a good routine with that. At night he knows when I say, "It's time for pajamas," he A) will giggle and crawl off fast if he wants to play some more or B) will point to his pajamas and crawl to them and put them on his head. Today, for the 1st time, he signed for milk and pointed to the fridge. We don't have to rock or sing him to sleep nearly as much or nearly as long now, he just knows when it's time, and he's tired. I hope this continues.

As of ~11 months to now, at 14 1/2 months old, Noah can sign: more, finished, fan, light, train, milk, and waves bye-bye. He says dada, uh-oh, and ugh ugh ugh (like when he's not supposed to get into something), and babbles tons of other syllables. He knows many items are around the house and outside, and points to them when we say them. He loves to play instruments lying around the house like the rock band drum set, his toy drums, Matt's bass guitar, and my keyboard, and is musical light up baby piano. We even got the ukulele down off the shelf for him so he could hold it better, more his size. He loves to cruise and walk with us holding both his hands for support. He's not walking on his own yet. Noah also loves pointing to his poo-pac (belly button), and yesterday for the first time pointed to his head and my nose, when I said the words. His teachers say he's such a smart boy, observing and taking it all in. He's always been a laid back baby with big eyes and his right thumb in his mouth. Not too quite though, some of his high pitched playful screeches, I can't even hit.

growing in the summer

We have really enjoyed this summer with Noah. We go swimming a couple times a week; you kind of have to when you live in a city that has seen over 30 strait days of over 100 degree temperatures. He loves to go splishy splashy in the pool and gets everyone's attention. They say, "awe look at the baby" and "be careful of the baby." He loves to watch the other kids in the baby pool area and many of them are nice enough to share their toys with him. He floats in his floaty or walks on the pool or on the side of the wall. His hat stays on 85% of the time. When he realizes it's on his head, he pulls it off if he is not being distracted or entertained. We have to be careful of his bald head not getting sun burned. He does not go underwater yet. Next to the pool is a nice big shaded park where he loves to play on the playground, go down the slide with Mom, and swing in the baby swing. He has finally grown out of eating the rocks, although he sticks some in his mouth every now and then to get a reaction out of us. We have pulled him along on the bike a few times now. If we ride longer than 30 minutes, he gets cranky. All and all he's been so cute and fun to hang out with. We have enjoyed taking him out and about with us to new places.

I have created this blog for our son, Noah. I have always wanted to keep a journal about his growing up and concluded this was more fun and easy than plain pen and paper. I hope everyone enjoys the memories recorded here.
